History

The Wooly is the event and music room at 20 N. Main St. in downtown Gainesville. Its history page says the site held the wooden Arlington Hotel from 1860 until an 1884 fire, then Endel’s Dry Goods (1886), Gainesville National Bank (1907), and an F. W. Woolworth store from 1923, later expanded up the block; Chesnut’s office supply bought it in 1983, the owners of The Top took the building in 2006, and The Wooly first opened in 2013 as a Fest room. Setlist.fm lists the opening year as 2013. The same page gives banquet seating of about 120 and a cocktail capacity of about 350 in 4,400 square feet. A 2013 Scene Point Blank interview with booker Tom Rankine said The Wooly shares ownership with The Atlantic, The Top, and Pop-A-Top.
