History

The Bluebird Nightclub, 216 N. Walnut St. in Bloomington, opened in 1973 as a bar and deli started by brothers John and Steve Ross of Washington, Indiana, and was named for an ice cream stand there. It became the city’s long-running live room, hosting players from John Lee Hooker to John Mayer and Zach Bryan. Owner David Kubiak, an IU graduate, bought it in 2004 after booking it for years. “The Bluebird” and “The Bluebird Nightclub” are the same club.
