History
Guthrie’s Alley Cat, the downtown Bakersfield bar on Wall Street alley near Eye Street. The spot had been the Alley Cat since 1940; brothers Jack and Mancil “Shorty” Guthrie opened Guthrie’s Cocktail Lounge in 1947, and Shorty ran Guthrie’s Alley Cat until his death in 1974. Nephew Kenny Reed then ran it for nearly half a century.
