History

The Blind Pig is at 208 S. First Street in Ann Arbor. University of Michigan senior Tom Isaia and Jerry DelGiudice opened it in 1971 in a former mill office, naming it after the Detroit slang for a speakeasy, and ran it as a daytime café and a blues room. DelGiudice started Blind Pig Records in 1975. They sold it in 1979 to Dave Whitmore, who sold it about three years later to Roy and Betty Goffett, who moved the stage upstairs and opened the 8-Ball Saloon downstairs. Capacity is about 400. Nirvana later called it a favorite room.
