Carnival Studio Theater, Adrienne Arsht Center

History

The Carnival Studio Theater is the black-box room inside the Ziff Ballet Opera House at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami. The center, designed by César Pelli of Pelli Clarke Pelli, opened in 2006 after groundbreaking in fall 2001. The Arsht’s own description says the studio seats up to about 250 and can be reset as a proscenium, thrust, cabaret, in-the-round, or festival stage. It is used for Theater Up Close productions, dance, comedy, and cabaret, and a rental page lists a smaller Susan Westfall Playwrights Stage configuration of about 200. Departures magazine named it one of the world’s most beautiful theaters in 2012.
