History

The Fillmore Detroit is the Live Nation concert hall at 2115 Woodward Avenue, in the Francis Palms Building. It opened on October 29, 1925, as the State Theatre, designed by C. Howard Crane on the site of an earlier Grand Circus Theatre. It was later the Palms-State and then the Palms, spent a stretch as Clubland, and was renamed the Fillmore Detroit when Live Nation took over, reopening under that name on June 13, 2007. The building joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Wikipedia lists capacity around 2,900; the Detroit Historical Society describes a cabaret main floor plus original seats in the mezzanine and balcony. The Detroit Music Awards are held there.
