The Huntington Theatre

264 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA, 02115
History
The Huntington Theatre at 264 Huntington Avenue was built in 1925 as the Repertory Theatre of Boston, Henry Jewett’s civic playhouse, which the Boston Globe has called the first nonprofit theater building in the United States. That company closed after the 1929 stock-market crash, and Boston University bought the building in 1955. The Huntington Theatre Company later made the house its home. A restoration of about $58 million, including the 1925 lighting fixtures and new seats, reopened the auditorium to the public in October 2022, and the company presents plays there.
