History
The United Center, at 1901 West Madison Street, is the home arena of the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks. Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and Blackhawks owner William Wirtz partnered in 1988 to replace the Chicago Stadium across the street; construction began in April 1992 and the arena opened with a ribbon-cutting on August 18, 1994. The venue’s own history page says it has hosted more than 200 events a year, including the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, U2, and the 1996 and 2024 Democratic National Conventions. Wikipedia lists concert capacity up to 23,500, making it the largest arena in the NBA by seating.
