The Dancing Bear

History

The Dancing Bear Pub opened in 2007 at 1117 Speight Avenue, a few blocks from the Baylor campus. The name is a joke on the university’s bear mascot and on the dancing ban that lasted at the Baptist school into the mid-1990s. It became a regular hangout for graduate students and seminary crowds as social drinking grew more accepted around campus. By 2020 Paxton Dove owned the pub, which pours a long list of regional craft beer.
