Lindberg's Tavern

318 W Walnut St, Springfield, MO · about 120

History

The Commercial Street tavern has gone by names including the Commercial Bar, the Joint, and the Corner Tap Room, and it is best known as Lindberg’s after J.C. “Carl” Lindberg, who in January 1934 filed Springfield’s first application to sell drinks after Prohibition. City records list the 1880 building as a house of ill repute kept by Martha Wallace and Belle Wilson. Ryan Dock and Eric Weiler reopened the long-shuttered bar on February 6, 2009. It books weekend live music; from the 1970s into the early 1990s it was a blues club that hosted the Ozark Mountain Daredevils.
