Arnold's Bar and Grill

History

Arnold's Bar and Grill is the oldest continuously operating bar in Cincinnati. The buildings at 208 and 210 East 8th Street went up in the late 1830s, and Simon Arnold opened the tavern in 1861 in the room that is still the bar. The Arnold family ran it for 98 years. A kitchen went in during Prohibition, and the second-floor bathtub was, by the house's own account, used for gin. Jim Tarbell bought it in 1976 and added the courtyard. Longtime server Ronda Breeden later bought it and runs it with her son.
