The Double Crown

History

Chris Bower and Steve Mann opened The Double Crown in December 2012 at 375 Haywood Road in West Asheville. The building had held bars since the 1960s and was most recently Mike’s Side Pocket, which closed after a fatal stabbing that year. The new owners saved Mike’s booths and bar top and filled the room with pieces of other closed Asheville bars, including the Vincent’s Ear sign, aiming for the feel of a New Orleans neighborhood bar. It books live music, and gospel groups became a regular part of the early calendar.
