The Lil Smokies are a Missoula, Montana roots band that plays bluegrass instruments with a rock-and-roll feel. Destination Missoula traced them to a 2009 college party on Daly Avenue, where Andy Dunnigan sat in on dobro. A March 2025 Whitefish Pilot story on the album Break of the Tide named dobro player Andy Dunnigan, guitarist Matthew Rieger, fiddler Jake Simpson, bassist Jean Luc Davis, and banjo player Sam Armstrong-Zickefoose. They have played Telluride and Red Rocks and recorded the Bill Reynolds-produced album Tornillo.
