the Pan-Detroit Ensemble
Detroit

Bio
The Pan-Detroit Ensemble is bassist, producer, and Blue Note president Don Was’s Detroit band, built to carry what he calls the city’s raw groove. The nine-piece mixes rock, jazz, funk, and reggae on the album Groove in the Face of Adversity, released on Mack Avenue, and the Cambridge set also takes on the Grateful Dead album Blues for Allah in full. Was has said the group was assembled by going back to Detroit players who attack their instruments like the city itself.
