Gentleman Jesse is Jesse Smith, an Atlanta musician who also played bass in the punk band the Carbonas. AllMusic says the side project started in 2005 with Carbonas drummer Dave Rahn, guitarist Craig Johnson, and bassist Dustan Nigro, playing bright early-new-wave power pop. The first single, Don’t Wanna Know (Where You Been Tonight), came out in 2006 on the Atlanta label Douchemaster, and the debut album Introducing Gentleman Jesse & His Men followed in 2008. Pitchfork later reviewed the 2012 album Leaving Atlanta, recorded in Smith’s basement.
