DJ Carbo is the DJ name of Mark Kates, the Boston music executive who founded the management company Fenway Recordings in 2001 after a decade at Geffen Records and a run heading the Beastie Boys’ Grand Royal label. Fenway’s own site says that as DJ Carbo he is resident and curator of The Fenway Recordings Sessions, a Crossroads Presents concert series that has brought more than 550 shows to Boston since 2004, with Kates spinning between sets. Headliners under that banner have included Diplo, fun., Hot Chip, Echo and the Bunnymen, MGMT, and Jorja Smith. He still works the decks at Brighton Music Hall dates billed with the Sessions.
